Nobu in Dubai by Rockwell Group

Nobu Dubai's main dining room is festooned with woven-abaca panels.

To anchor the restaurant in its location, Rockwell Group surrounded the restaurant walls and ceilings with large hand-woven curvilinear abaca panels to evoke an environment submerged under an ocean wave, and added accents of traditional Middle Eastern vernacular architecture such as hand-wrought iron columns of flowers, leaves and buds.

Tomas Neal's centre

Aim: create a really convivial space in the lower floor(basement) of the centre.

Design: the place is warped with ropes of abaca.
The site is incorporated in a"fabric" made of abaca.
The roof of the corridor is made of woven ropes of abaca. This roof leads to the main space.
With the same system, the columns are used to create a "fabric" all around the yard.

Comyn CHing Triangle (Ching Court) - a quiet yard to read

Aim: Fitting out the court to offer more installations for people who wants to read or have a quiet break.

Design : The design is inspired from the architecture of the yard (and also its name Comyn Ching Triangle) : a triangle.

The wall in the middle of the yard divides the yard in two space. The first one on the left is reserved for people working there. The entrances of the offices are isolated. One the right side of the wall chairs are provided for everybody who wants to sit.

The wall which makes the separation of the yard is also a bench.

The chairs are designed to make the lecture time more pleasant. On the left side of the chair, a small table can be used as a support to put down a sandwich or a can.
On the right side, the arm-rest fits to the position a arm has when a person's reading.
Those chairs are for people working in the buildings which have their entrance on the yard.
The chairs are made of metal. They can be moved and become a bigger chair or even a bench. They are at the disposal of the people working there.

Covent Garden Market Place

Aim: create a projection space on the terrace of the restaurant

Inspiration: the outdoor projection of movies and the leading thread of a movie.
The design: it comes from the idea of the thread in a movie that breath-takes the viewer.
In my installation, the thread invites you to get in the yard, then it becomes tables and finally brings you to the exit.

The space is divided in 3 spaces.
The first one is on the left just in front of the screen (the white wall) and it is reserved to people who really wants to watch the projection. People are like in a cinema. For the sound, headphones will be provided : people can take without disturbing people who are watching the movie/ documentary/ ...
The two next rows are also turned toward the screen. However, it is for people desirous to have either a proper discussion or watching the screen as a distraction.
The last part is on the right. It is more like a living room for people who want a coffee or a piece of cake (short break).
This is the entrance from Earlham street. The lines on the floor are a kind of plexiglass tube that link Thomas Neal's centre with this yard. The line represents the thread making a cloth. All the lines meet to create the strip that will become then tables. The screen is just a wall painted in white. The shape of it follows the marks let by a previoius building. (see the next image).
I was thinking to built an other roof on the opposite side of the existing one. The yard will be totally protected from rain...

The chair is has the same shape as the one in Ching Court. However it is made of abaca's fiber which is the main component of the design in Thomas Neal's Centre. Plus, the table is made of the same metal than the one used in Ching Court (which makes reference to the ironmonger buisness).

Neal's yard-a place to have lunch

Aim: To propose a comfortable place to have lunch

Inspiration: Neal's yard has always been a singular an excentric place in all it's history. The idea was to keep the magic emanating from the yard and to create an oasis of vegetation and colours.

The design: The installation is an oasis in the area, a lunge made of vegetation with an intimate atmosphere thanks to the dense vegetation that surrounds the tables.
(The vegetation will be heavier in my drawings...)

As Neal's yard Salad bar is a vegan restaurant that only proposes salads, I designed a table where all the necessary ingredients to dress a salad (herbs (thym, basilic...), oil, vinegar...) and are in a pot that fits into the table.

Tower Court-an exotic flower market

Aim: Earlham street used to welcome a exotic flower market. The aim of the installation is to reintroduce the flower market in Seven Dials.

Inspiration: The design comes from the shape of an exotic flower: the heliconia, a widely spread flower in the tropical countries.

The structure is a stall where all the flowers can be displayed.
It is also a place to have a break:
- stools are made of concrete
- tables are in wood
The link between Ching Court and Tower Court is done with those cloth's roofs.

Entrance of the market by Earlham street.
The "door" and the bar on the right represent the stem of the flower Whereas the triangular shapes represents the petals of the flower.
